How ANAS Crystal Technology works
Share
Every ANAS Crystal Care product holds a real Quartz Crystal. Crystal Technology is our name for how that crystal, together with mineral-rich water, becomes part of the product. The method is documented in international patent publication WO2020025988. This is how it works, step by step.
Where it started
Crystal Technology was developed by the three ANAS founders, research chemist Ioannis Mourtzinos, developing chemist Katerina Vassilatou and Anas Putriss. In 2019 they documented the method internationally; the World Intellectual Property Organization published it in February 2020 as WO2020025988.1 The publication sets out how a piece of white quartz and mineral water are built into a cosmetic product, and how the result is checked.
How it works, in four steps
- 1. The crystal. We use white Quartz Crystal from Madagascar. Each piece is cut, smoothed with natural abrasives such as sand and silicon carbide, and cleaned before it goes into a product.1
- 2. The water. During the water phase of production, mineral-rich water is added to the formula. For ANAS this is Thermo-Volcanic Water from La Bourboule in the French Auvergne, used in our water-based formulas.1
- 3. Into the product. During filling, one piece of Quartz Crystal of a set weight goes into each product, in a fixed ratio to the product's weight. It stays there for the life of the product, which is why you can see it in every product.1
- 4. Measuring the result. The method checks the product on conductivity, pH and the concentration of mineral ions: sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. In the examples in the publication, conductivity and these ion levels rose over a measuring period of fifteen days. The inventors describe this as mineral ions moving from the surface of the quartz into the product over time.1
What the measurements tell us
- The measurements describe the formula itself: its minerals, conductivity and pH, followed over fifteen days.
- Quartz is a very stable mineral. Water dissolves only small amounts from it, and slowly.2 That is why the crystal stays in the bottle for the life of the product, as the mineral heart of the formula and the ritual.

Why we work this way
We wanted the crystal to be more than an image on a label. By placing a real Quartz Crystal in every bottle and combining it with naturally mineralised water, the mineral story is something you can see, hold and come back to every day. The bottle design that holds the crystal won a Red Dot Design Award.
